Sharing your data can help other journalists and civil society organisations, but there are many emerging business models which make use of open data too. Proving that there is a business model for open data can help if you are lobbying a government department to share its data archives with you. You may ask for data for a single story or campaign, but the argument that the data has use beyond may encourage officials to open up.
