Introduction
In previous lessons, we have learnt about the importance and goals of digital security, as well as the threats that try to compromise digital security. While covering threats, we realised that emails and social media accounts can be targeted in an identity theft or impersonation scam. Beyond that, the average internet user tends to have anything from five to twenty online accounts when you factor in entertainment, instant messaging, social networking, education, communication, banking, work, investments, and other areas. Bearing all these in mind, it is important to address the need to secure all these accounts we own or have access to.
Many accounts house our personal information in our profiles and some also give us the ability to post information publicly. When a post goes from an account, it is usually assumed that the account owner made that post. This very reasonable assumption can become an issue when we consider that accounts get hacked all the time and such accounts are often used to commit fraud. Thankfully, there have been improvements in technology that help us to better protect these accounts, and that is what we will discuss in this Lesson.
