Introduction

In this lesson, you will learn about the role we all play in information dissemination and why it is important to verify information before consuming or sharing it. Information comes in many forms, for many reasons, and from many sources. It is our duty as internet users to ensure that we get credible information from reliable sources while making sure that we are not part of the problem.

Lesson learning outcomes

At the completion of this lesson, the learner should be able to:

  1. Define the challenges of online information consumption
  2. Understand and explain the information sharing mantra
  3. Recognise how their online behaviour and communication can impact relationships, reputation, and personal or professional opportunities.
  4. Understand the implications of sharing information online and practise responsible sharing.
  5. Develop skills for critically evaluating the credibility and reliability of online information sources.
  6. Understand the differences between misinformation, disinformation, malinformation and how to avoid spreading false information
