The African Wikipedian Alliance (AWA) is a network of African-focused Wikipedians-in-Residence (WiR) whose aim is to strengthen Wikipedia editor communities and expand African content on the platform. It is underwritten by Code for Africa (CfA) to support African Wikipedians in improving the quantity and quality of African content on global Wiki platforms, as well as to boost gender equity/justice on these platforms and detect and debunk disinformation or content vandalism targeting African audiences. The AWA is part of CfA’s broader commitment to building indigenous communities-of-practice and support networks across the continent.
