What is CVE?

Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) represents a comprehensive set of strategies and programs aimed at preventing the spread of violent ideologies and addressing the root causes of radicalisation.

The ultimate objective of CVE is to create resilient communities and foster a safer, more inclusive society by addressing the multifaceted factors that contribute to radicalisation.

This multifaceted approach involves community engagement to build resilience, educational initiatives to counteract extremist propaganda, provision of social services to address underlying issues like poverty, and the development of counter-narratives to challenge extremist ideologies.

Significance of this manual

This training manual serves as a comprehensive guide, outlining the Congress for Peace (COPP) training programme content, including curriculum, objectives, exercises, and methodologies.

The manual contains resources for COPP training participants and other stakeholders interested in CVE or designing and implementing CVE training initiatives, using the COPP training programme methodologies.

Stakeholders may include government agencies, non-governmental organisations, community leaders, educators, and CVE practitioners. Whichever category you fall into, we welcome you to your training journey.

Learning Objectives

This manual is set to equip learners (including trainees and facilitators) with a set of competencies and tools that will allow them to:

• 1. 1. 1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the concept of violent extremism (online and offline)
        2. Acclimatise to the CVE course content.
        3. Familiarise with the step-by-step instructions for completing the COPP training exercises.
        4. Review and analyse the COPP project in a bid to understand how to set up a similar CVE training.

Contents

This manual contains practical training guidelines and resources on CVE (Countering Violent Extremism). Pay special attention to the training curriculum, and how it was designed, executed, and evaluated. A number of items have been included in this manual:

Curriculum - A detailed curriculum outline, exercises etc

Case Study - CVE-related case studies

Methodology - Training design approaches to structure and optimise the learning experience.

Structure - A well-designed structure and format of the training sessions; both in-person and online.
